Leveraging the Future of Work at Gallagher Bassett (GB)

The future of the insurance industry will be shaped by how we all respond to creating compelling, meaningful career tracks for claims professionals.

Here at GB, we continue to focus on creating a work environment built on a great culture for our employees and an infrastructure that allows us to continue to deliver superior service and solutions to our clients and claimants.

As we get closer to reopening this fall, we are making some important changes to our workplace strategy to enhance our ability to attract and retain talent and deliver unmatched service to our clients.

First, we are making additional investments into our larger operating hubs and expanding our efforts to develop the next generation of claims professionals. These hubs will allow us to recruit and deliver training centers of excellence across the country and be a touchstone example of our most important talent development strategies.

To support the growth of these hubs, we are expanding our team of recruiters, mentors, and technical trainers and delivering refined, industry-leading career pathways for new entrants to the industry. We’ll also be streamlining our rotational program to give new claims professionals challenging and engaging placements.

Second, like many organizations, we will continue to enable a larger portion of our team to work remotely on a permanent basis. This is the natural evolution of the progressive, flexible work philosophy we pioneered over a decade ago. Our experience in remote work has allowed us to develop the right tools, management process, and expertise to support our seasoned, high-performing claims professionals to work remotely. We know those who work remotely are often more satisfied, engaged, and motivated, and where our team has expressed a desire to continue to have this flexibility, we have empowered them with this option.

Further, this ability to confidently expand remote work options supports our goal, and the industry’s growing need, to attract and retain the best talent across the country – regardless of where they live.

“The capabilities and the learnings of the past year and a half have informed our decision to extend the ability to work remotely for even more people, while positioning the right role in the right place at the right time for our employees and our clients,” says Mike Hessling, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), North America. “This will allow us to continue to recruit the best claims professionals across the country – regardless of their experience level or where they reside.”

While more of our seasoned claims professionals will have the opportunity to work remotely, we will continue to have teams in offices across the U.S., including many in roles that do not lend themselves to remote work.

Many of the investments and much of the work to enable our reopening plans has been underway for months and is on track to meet our reopening plans this fall.

Ajay Sinha, Executive Vice President, Claims Operation, says, “We have developed and invested in tools to ensure that our team members are productive, engaged, and delivering on the promise that we are a provider delivering superior outcomes wherever they work. And we are committed to making the GB employee and client experience exceptional.”
